Chioggia is a seaport on an
island in the
Venetian Lagoon. Built on wooden piles and surrounded by the
Lombardo Canal, it is connected to the mainland by a stone bridge. The
Canale della Vena, which is crossed by nine bridges, divides Chioggia. Fishing has long been most important in the town’s economy. Manufactured products include steel, bricks, and
textiles.
